Make sure that your electronics get the right 12v Adapter for your personal electronics and ensure that they live a long happy life without burnouts or frying anything. We’ll show you how to be sure you’re using the right adapter.
Still have the old 12 volt adapter?
This is the best scenario. If you have your old adapter simply turn it over and look to see that it says 12v somewhere. Right next to that should be something about how many amps it uses. Usually electronics will use one of of six amperages:
Lost the 12v adapter?
Don’t worry, it’s not a big problem. If you’re dealing with a camera, LCD screen or just about anything else you can look on the bottom of your electronics device, sometimes under the battery for the power needs.
Identifying and reading the power needs
Once you’ve found the power needs of your device it’s time to identify and decipher what it actually means.
Look for something like “Power Input:” and after that should be the voltage and amperage needs. It will be formatted like this
12v~1.5a(1.5A)
The first part, “12v” shows that it takes a 12v input. If you’re looking on a power adapter it should say 120v because it’s meant to pull power from the wall. If you are looking at a power adapter look under the “output” field.
The “1.5a” identifies the amps needed to power the device.
Hope that helps!
